Acyclovir (ACV), (E)-5-(2-bromovinyl)-2-deoxyuridine (BVDU) and 9-(1 ,3-dyhydroxy-2-propoxyr-iethyl) guanine (DHPG) are nucleoside analogs which are active against herpes simplex virus and their acting; mechanisms are similar.
In the present study, the dose-dependent and comparative effect of ACV, BVDU and DHPG on the replication of HSV-1 F were examined by plaque assay technique. The results obtained were summarized as follows.
1. ACV markedly inhibited the replication of HSV-1F.
2. BVDU was more potent than ACV against HSV-iF but in the high concentration it was not. 3. DHPG was more potent than ACV or BVDU against HSV-1F.
